We moved to Massachusetts! Settling back in my practice.

This summer has been a whirlwind of emotions as I tried to maintain a healthy art practice, take care of my family, and get the news that we would be making a move from San Diego, California to Brockton Massachusetts!

Just two years ago we moved from New Jersey to California, and didn’t think we would be leaving California so soon, or that we’d end up in the Northeast again.

While work making has slowed down quite a bit, I’ve had some great opportunities to show my work since. Since we moved this summer I’ve had work featured in:

The Curated Fridge Summer Show “Little Wins”

Work published in Made Alone Together by Good Words Press

Had an interview of my work on Lenscratch

And currently have two pieces on view at Stay Home Gallery & Residency for their exhibition Hope: Revolution

Mid August after spending some time in New Mexico with our families, and living in a hotel for over a week with our daughter and pets, we were finally able to move into a home in Brockton Massachusetts that we really love. Since then we’ve been just trying to make it our home and settle back into a routine.

I’ve been in a rut creatively trying to navigate all of the changes that this move brought for me, and have been coming to terms with the fact that I may just have less and less studio time now that I’m parenting alone 90% of the time with a toddler who now likes to defy sleep.

But, I’ve slowly been able to start working more in my new studio space! My workspace in San Diego was just a small area in our bedroom for my desk and printer, I used the kitchen island to make prints and had to clear everything out of the way at dinner time. It was cramped and not the ideal work space for me.

My new workspace that still needs a few things but has been great working in so far.

In our new home I now have a whole room to myself that I can keep my family out of most of the time.

Lately I’ve been trying to take more documentary images when I can, and have started to get back into making cyanotypes using a DIY light setup so I wouldn’t have to rely on the sun (which is not consistent, and nothing like San Diego where it was sunny all of the time. We got snow here last week!

While exposure times with this set up are much slower than the sun, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve been able to accomplish so far.

In addition to making the occasional documentary style digital image I’ve also been making more polaroids as I was finally able to repair my Sx-70 Sonar in July. Here are some of the images I’ve made since we moved to Massachusetts.

I’m hoping to be able to get back into shooting and developing film more frequently again, but still need to prepare a developing space and raise more funds for chemicals and film.

If you would like to support my work, consider becoming a Patron. Through the generosity of my patrons each month, I am able to pay for this website, or purchase film to make more work.

If monthly subscriptions aren’t your style. You can buy prints polaroids and more on this site! I just updated my store with many new cyanotypes and polaroids.
