ARIM Week 9 | Lots of Cyanotypes
This week I’m approaching my next round of critiques for the Artist/Mother Podcast critique group. So, I needed to get a little more organized, and make some progress with my cyanotype work. Here’s a comparison of last weeks work, and how it looks today. There are still a few that need to be re printed that didn’t make it up, but the work comes out to roughly 54 prints. Three days of the toys I’ve picked up at nap time. I think eventually, I may try to make a full week. However, I am running out of materials, funds for more, and space to put all of them.
For now, I hope to make the best possible prints of each object and think about how I might actually like the work displayed. As for now I just used some clips and twine I already had lying around the house. In previous weeks I was using the side of my fridge to pin them on, but now there are just too many.
I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish the last couple months with my residency and making the most of the materials I have. I hope to better document the final prints, and maybe scan the remaining prints as well.
I’ve still been trying to document our days as best I can. With many of my polaroid cameras broken, I’m limited. But have still been taking more digital images, and was able to develop one roll of film that had a couple usable images. It’s been interesting to see how my work looks across different mediums, and has definitely been a challenge.
Artist Residency in Motherhood |What will the coming weeks look like?
I realized today that when I initially filled out the form for my residency, I put my start date as March 23rd, 2020. And end date as 8 weeks from then. May 25th, 2020. Which is today!
I’m also at a good pausing point for the cyanotype work, even if I decide to try to create a whole week of cyanotypes instead of just three days.
Working with more intention has been wonderful for my practice, writing down notes, thoughts and what I’m thankful for has helped me tremendously. And holding myself accountable through my blog posts has also been a great way for me to check in for myself, and my community.
At this time the next month won’t change much for my family, but we will be moving out of state come July. So I will be extending my residency to June 25th.
Over the next month I would like to fine tune my cyanotypes, as well as shoot my remaining film stock/ use up my chemicals before moving.
I’m un decided on keeping up with the weekly blog format. However I may just keep it depending on how many people enjoy this platform as a way to see my current work.
